The citizens of her Ravenna held their first town celebration on July 4 1887 In honor of Ravenna’s first anniversary which was in advance of the official date of October 12. For several years July 4 was the date chosen for the town celebration. In 1903 it was decided to have a harvest carnival and the celebration was held in September. This celebration continued until 1923 when a new name was sought for the fall Festival to be held in August Ann-E-Var,  Ravenna spelled backwards was chosen as were the official colors purple and gold. The colors were derived from purple of the alfalfa bloom and the gold of the ripen the grain.
